Jamie O'Hara believes that Sheffield United shouldn't be able to earn promotion to the Premier League next year after they were relegated.

The Premier League confirmed that pending Nottingham Forest and Everton's appeals over the points deductions, the Blades have been demoted to the Championship after a 5-1 defeat to Newcastle.

It's been a campaign to forget for everyone associated with Sheffield United, and the thrashing by the Toon summed up their problems.

Chris Wilder's side opened the scoring at St James' Park and could have been two or three goals up before Alexander Isak equalised for the hosts.

Newcastle then scored four in 18 second-half minutes to condemn the Blades to another brutal defeat.

They've now conceded a staggering 97 goals this season, which is a record for a 38-game campaign.

And O'Hara thinks Sheffield United shouldn't be allowed to be promoted from the Championship for one season.

He said: "Sheffield United have conceded 97 goals. It's a record. I mean, it's not Sunday league.

"I think they should get banned. Give them a season ban. They've come up, sold their two best players and have been a disaster.

"They've got 16 points. There should be some sort of ban. If you are that bad, you shouldn't be allowed back into the Premier League for a season.

"Sheffield United have been an absolute joke. They have been embarrassing."

His co-host, Gabby Agbonlahor, also tore into the Blades.

Phil Jagielka reveals how Neil Warnock gave him a rollicking while naked at Sheffield United and thinks the Aberdeen players are in for a treat in the remainder of the Scottish season

He said: "Some of the defending is calamitous. They are just not at the level.

"When Sheffield United were in the Premier League before, they gave it a go. This season, terrible.

"If you concede over 100 goals, which they will, that is crazy."

Not only will the Blades be playing in the second tier of English football next year, they will also start on -2 points due to defaulted payments.

Overall, it's been a shocking return to the top-flight for Sheffield United, who will go down as one of the worst Premier League teams ever.

Speaking after relegation was confirmed for now, Wilder said: "It stings and it hurts. We have to own it. We have got so much work to do on the training ground. We have got to have a proper pre-season.

"Sheffield United is a really good football club. I think everyone understands that, but it has been a really poor season.

"I have still got another year left of my contract and I would like to think that the supporters can trust me. I'm enthusiastic and committed, along with my coaching staff, to get it right.

"We know exactly what direction we need to go in, what the culture is going to look like, and what our pre-season is going to look like.

"It is going to be a tough summer for everybody."
