In demand Sunderland striker to move to Germany at the end of the season

According to The Northern Echo, Sunderland striker Josh Maja is set to see out the remainder of the season at the Stadium of Light, before completing a switch to Germany in the summer.

Plenty of clubs remain interested in the Sunderland man, with the likes of Middlesbrough and Bristol City reportedly keen from the Championship, and Manchester City, Huddersfield and Crystal Palace from the Premier League.

The forward is happy to stay at Sunderland until the end of the 2018/19 season, however, according to the report, Maja’s preferred destination would be the Bundesliga over a move to a fellow-English club.

His representatives have been in contact with several clubs in the German top flight, with Maja part of an agency named the Elite Project Group, who have developed several close ties to the Bundesliga in recent years. Their clients include the likes of Jadon Sancho, who swapped Manchester for Dortmund last year, Reiss Nelson, on loan at Hoffenheim from Arsenal, and Everton’s Ademola Lookman, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Red Bull Leipzig.

The main pull of the Bundesliga looks to be the higher wages offered than that of the Championship sides interested, but Maja could opt for a move to the Premier League if a concrete offer comes in for the 20-year old.

With his contract up in the summer, the Black Cats top scorer would be free to leave Wearside as a free agent. However, given his age, Sunderland would demand compensation for the transfer.
