On Monday afternoon, Championship side Aston Villa announced that winger Yannick Bolasie had exercised an option in his contract to return to parent club Everton.
Yannick Bolasie’s loan move to Aston Villa has come to an end early, with the player opting to exercise an option allowing him to return to parent club Everton this January.
In the club’s announcement on their official website, they thanked Bolasie for his efforts during his time playing in claret and blue, saying:
“The club would like to thank Yannick for his contribution to Aston Villa during his loan spell and wish him all the best in his future career.”
The winger came in under Steve Bruce to try and bring in some flair to help Aston Villa in a promotion push for Premier League football. However, the move has not gone to plan and he has opted to return to Everton earlier than expected.
The winger played 21 times for Aston Villa during his loan spell at Villa Park, scoring two goals and assisting five times. His last game for Villa came in Saturday’s 2-2 draw against in-form Hull City at Villa Park.
Overall, Aston Villa fans seem to have been underwhelmed by the Everton winger during his brief spell with the Championship side. Upon his arrival, fans were excited to see the DR Congo international playing in the Championship, but many fans have come out to say that it never worked for Bolasie at Villa Park and would rather see the money his big wages take up be used elsewhere.
They had their say on Twitter upon the announcement of his departure:
Shame it never worked. Cheers yannick x

Cheers Yannick. Glimpses of the player you could be but overall just too inconsistent. Not worth 70k a week.

Definitely a good player but too inconsistent and not hardworking enough…much prefer someone who’s got something to prove

Shame, match winner on his day and put some brilliant crosses in resulting in assists. Same issue as all our wingers though atm, lack consistency. All the best Yannick.

Hopefully andre green can step up. Young hungry player. Frees up wages to for other players that smith actually wants. Shame it didnt work coz yannick is a good player but very inconsistent and not enough goals this year. Thought he would rip defences apart to be honest.

All the best for the future @YannickBolasie . Time for us to rely less on loans and more on Dean's requirements for hungry young talent.
