FA Cup third round: Liverpool draw Everton in third round

Liverpool will host Everton in the third round of the FA Cup, while Championship promotion hopefuls Leeds United will travel to Arsenal.

Holders Manchester City will welcome League Two side Port Vale and Manchester United go to Wolves in a repeat of last season's quarter-final.

National League side AFC Fylde, the lowest ranked team definitely through to the third round, will travel to Premier League Sheffield United.

The ties take place from 3-6 January.

FA Cup third-round matches to kick off a minute late

Boston, of the sixth-tier National League North, will host Premier League opposition in Newcastle United, if they can come through a replay against Rochdale on Tuesday, 10 December.

Fellow non-league sides Hartlepool and Eastleigh also face replays, but could meet Oxford United and Barnsley respectively should they progress.

Merseyside rivals Liverpool and Everton meet on Wednesday night in the Premier League, with both sides in wildly differing form.

Jurgen Klopp's Reds are eight points clear at the top of the league, while Everton sit two points above the relegation zone with pressure mounting on boss Marco Silva.

All three of the most recent meetings between Leeds and Arsenal have come in the third round of the FA Cup, the Gunners winning 1-0 in 2012 and also prevailing 3-1 in a replay in January 2011, following a 1-1 draw.

Wolves reached their first FA Cup semi-final in 21 years by beating Manchester United in last season's quarters, while Manchester City will be wary of falling victim to lower-league Port Vale after going out to then-League One side Wigan in the fifth round in 2018.

What a shock once again City get a league 2 team at home. Makes it a lot easier to win domestic trebles when you can rest your first team for every single round of the cup.

United get a PL team away (again), and City get a league 2 team at home (again). You gotta admit it's starting to get a bit suspicious how City keep on getting these easy draws, particularly when the draw is being held inside their home ground and conducted by their former player!

Everton fan here. We are truly cursed! Yes, we are awful at the moment, but our luck is just unreal. Leicester defeat was laughable, we all knew it was coming. And now the FA Cup draw! We get the top prem team away. Just wonderful! Dreading Wednesday. Mark this post! 0-0 until 90th minute, Liverpool will get a pen, it'll hit crossbar, bounce off Pickford and be taken in with a freak gust of wind

As an Everton fan, if we beat Liverpool we can go on to.... Must dash, medication time ;-)

PS - although it is the fa cup and anything can happen, evidence so far this season does not support a surprise in this cup tie

Ties that should be televised:

Liverpool vs Everton for obvious reasons
Wolves vs Man Utd, which should be a cracker
Arsenal vs Leeds for the nostalgia

Tie that will probably be shown instead:

Man City vs Port Vale for the £££

As a Gooner I'll take Leeds, could be better, could be worse. A possible upset, I must admit.

Regardless of whether it's rigged or not. You can't deny getting easy draws in the champions league, league cup and FA cup for the last 3 years now doesn't half help. Every cup game is basically an opportunity to rest the starting 11.

And of all clubs City are the last ones who need rest their squad depth is ridiculous.

For all you moaners whinging about City getting an easy draw check your history, I've seen the Vale win away at City twice!
Yes we'll probably get hammered but there's always that chance of an upset which is what the FA Cup is all about.
One thing for sure we'll have a big away following and it's not far to travel. Super Vale Away!!!
